Hidden Safari

Image
What is this? This project is called the hidden safari project. Here we learned about different animals and fauna found in the safari which in turn is also a geography lesson. We used our previous knowledge of colors that are warm vs cool and contrasting colors. We each chose an animal to draw where we looked at a stencil and were asked to flip the stencil over and focus on drawing the lines/shapes we see. This helps us to draw and not focus on what the animal looks like. Astoundingly my animal didn't turn out half bad. We also made glasses that had a red see-through plastic that showed only the daring of the animal behind all of the patterns that were drawn in warm colors to distract the eye. You can only see the animal once you hold up the glasses to your eye.  Extension Activity: I would use this lesson in writing where we have our students write a couple sentences in the blue pencil where they summarize an article we read together. They then have to use warm colors to co...

Vincent Van Gogh Collage

Image
What is this? This is a collage inspired by Vincent Van Gogh. Van Gogh is famous for his oil paintings with one being one that many people have seen. This is inspired by the starry night painting by Van Gogh. In this piece, he uses the blues, purples, and blacks to create the night sky. These colors are considered cool colors. In my piece, I wanted to try to capture the night sky at a farm in the country.  Extension Activity: I would be able to use this activity in a math activity where we use pieces of paper in different shapes. I would have the students identify what shapes they make by ripping the paper and how many sides each shape has. This will help the students to recognize the different shapes, sizes and sides all shapes have.
