Foot Print Introductions

 Description: What is it? This is a project to introduce ourselves to our classrooms where we have the things or objects that we feel describe ourselves. The images you select to use on your footprint should be hobbies, activities, or things that you like to do! I traced my foot with my shoe on and then decided on the images that I wanted to represent me. For my footprint, I put what I would like to be called which. is miss Allie as I aspire to become a 3rd-grade teacher. I then put up in the top left a sunflower because sunflowers are my favorite flowers. Then if you look just to the right of the flower I have a picture of Minnesota on there to represent where I am from. Next, I have a fish made out of tin foil to show that I love to go fishing. Then the next one on the right is a tree and a sun to show that I love winter and summer. Then you will see a large cup of coffee with real coffee grounds in it to show how much I love coffee! The next picture to the left of the coffee cup is a spider to show that I really dislike spiders. The next image to the left of the spider is a bike swoosh because Nike is my favorite brand. The last picture to the left of the bike swoosh is to show my dogs! 

Extension activity: As I previously stated, I want to be a 3rd-grade teacher. Therefore, I could have my students start out the year by creating the footprint project to introduces themselves to me and the class. I could then have the students use them throughout the year. I could have the students measure their footprint to see how many inches their foot is and then how many centimeters their foot is. I hope that it will help the students understand measurements better. One more idea I thought of is you could use your footprint and measure around your bed and find the perimeter of your bed at home or choose an object in the school!

Dot Painting

 In this lesson, we looked at various artists who created paintings by only using dots with paint. We got to do this lesson on our own by creating a flower and then we use the dot painting approach and paint the flower using dots. If you look closely at the painting you can see the dots but when you are far away from the painting the dots blend together to create the painting we see.  Extension activity: Geometry Students would have to choose to complete the dot painting theory one shape they want and then they have to measure the perimeter of the shape and document that. The students would then. have to think pair share with another student and tell the other student how they got the perimeter and show the student as well. For gifted students, I would ask them to find the area instead of the perimeter and they would have to think pair share to the teacher how they got the area.

Contrasting Color picture

In this activity, we had to pick two colors that were contrasting colors which means they are on opposite sides of the color wheel which helps to make the picture stand out. We had to trace the fish and cut it out multiple times and then glue it onto the paper. We then get to use pre-cut strips of paper to create a background that also helps make the picture stand out more vibrantly.  Extension Activity: Science lesson. In a science lesson, students would get to research and chose whatever animal they wanted and then they would still complete the artwork lesson but then they would have to write a brief description of why they chose that animal and 3 fun facts about that animal they learned.  Students would also get the option to share with the class about the animal they chose and the fun facts they learned about that animal.

Dot Day

Dot day is an international day that celebrates creativity, courage, and collaboration. Therefore, to celebrate this harmonious day we incorporated our art lesson with a language arts lesson. First, we read  The Dot  by Peter Reynolds. After reading our story, we were asked to create a piece of artwork that contained a dot and a few different mediums, such as markers, oil pastels, crayons, sharpies, colored pencils, watercolors, etc. After we finished our artwork we used a paintbrush to coat our work with water to see what mediums bled or didn't bleed . Here I used oil pastels, markers, and watercolor paints. In my mind, I was creating a sunset using a bunch of different dots that would eventually combine to form a sunset but I believe that it turned out more as a tie-die-looking piece of artwork.  Extention Activity: A math teacher probably for the grade 6th and up, could have her students draw a variety of dots that differ in size.
