Hot Air Balloon-3D

Image
In the Hot Air Balloon project, we were to make something 3D. We used paper plates, paper stripes, markers, cotton balls, and tape to create this project. First, we took the paper plate and pulled the paper strips over the plate to create a bubble effect.  We did this until the paper plate was filled with color. Once we were done with that you tape it down to the paper. We then get to draw a background that really makes our hot air balloon pop.  Extension Activity: For this lesson, I would tie in a geometry lesson and draw a triangle from the balloon on the ground, and one building or object in the picture and learn the Pythagorean theorem. This would be for about a highschool or maybe advanced middle school level of students as well.

Weaving

Image
In this lesson, we got to learn about Native American cultures and how they idealized weaving to represent their own personal beliefs. As a result of this, we got to learn what each color represents in the artifacts they created. In the lesson that was taught today, we got to make our own little mini bracelets that we used string to weave.  Extension Activity: Math; In a future math lesson, you could have students learn how to do measurements using a ruler correctly. They would make the bracelets and then they would be asked to measure the bracelet using the ruler and then record the lengths. You would then compare with a neighbor and explain to them how to correctly use a ruler.

Print Making!

Image
In this lesson, we get to create our own patterns and cut them out, and then glue them onto the paper to create our own patterns on paper! Print making is an artistic process based on the principle of transferring images from a matrix onto another surface, most often paper or fabric. Traditional printmaking techniques include wood, etching, and engraving, while modern artists have expanded available techniques to include screenprinting.   Extension Activity: Math lesson; In a future math lesson you could have the students look at how many squares go down the side of the paper ex.) 5 and then you would count how many squares go across the top ex.) 4 and once students have done this you would introduce multiplication and how to get the area of objects. it would be 4 multiplied by 5 to equal 20.   Source: https://www.metmuseum.org/about-the-met/curatorial-departments/drawings-and-prints/materials-and-techniques/printmaking#:~:text=Printmaking%20is%20an%20artistic%20proc...

Pottery pot

Image
In this lesson, we got to make our very own pots out of air-dry clay. We had to take a little chunk of clay and roll it out into snake-like rolls and then we had to place it on top of the previous layer. We did this until we had a pot that was in the shape we would like. We then got to chose if we wanted to put texture on the outside of the pot or paint it or do both!  Extension Activity: Language Arts lesson; For a language arts lesson students would be studying what nouns and adjectives are. What I would have students do is to write as many nouns and adjectives they can think of and put the little notes into the pot. Students would also get to write the definition of a noun and an adjective well and also put that note into the pot.

Contrasting Color picture

Image
In this activity, we had to pick two colors that were contrasting colors which means they are on opposite sides of the color wheel which helps to make the picture stand out. We had to trace the fish and cut it out multiple times and then glue it onto the paper. We then get to use pre-cut strips of paper to create a background that also helps make the picture stand out more vibrantly.  Extension Activity: Science lesson. In a science lesson, students would get to research and chose whatever animal they wanted and then they would still complete the artwork lesson but then they would have to write a brief description of why they chose that animal and 3 fun facts about that animal they learned.  Students would also get the option to share with the class about the animal they chose and the fun facts they learned about that animal.

Dot Painting

Image
In this lesson, we looked at various artists who created paintings by only using dots with paint. We got to do this lesson on our own by creating a flower and then we use the dot painting approach and paint the flower using dots. If you look closely at the painting you can see the dots but when you are far away from the painting the dots blend together to create the painting we see.  Extension activity: Geometry Students would have to choose to complete the dot painting theory one shape they want and then they have to measure the perimeter of the shape and document that. The students would then. have to think pair share with another student and tell the other student how they got the perimeter and show the student as well. For gifted students, I would ask them to find the area instead of the perimeter and they would have to think pair share to the teacher how they got the area.

Personal Mural

Image
In this lesson, we had to either chose to draw our name or our initials in bubble letters. Students had to choose five different line patterns, colors, and shapes that describe themselves personally. An example of this is the pawprints present in the picture to represent the love I have for my dogs. This lesson is great for a 3rd-grade classroom where the students get to practice drawing lines and shapes/patterns that represent you as a person. We would then tape all the projects up on the wall in the classroom to create a mural to show that although we are all pretty similar we are all still different at the same time.  Extension Activity: This could be added into a geometry lesson where instead of personal pictures/patterns students draw they would have to choose five shapes to draw using a straight edge and then they have to think pair share to another student about the shapes and lines they chose to draw. Students would still need the lines and colors but instead they dr...
